Autumn Favourites

October 12, 2017

I love Autumn, I think it is the best time of year. The days start to get shorter which means cosy evenings in, snuggled under a blanket watching films on the sofa. The air starts to get a chill and the leaves turn into an array of beautiful gold and red hues. I love the cold, it means I can crack out the jumpers and winter coats and you can't beat autumnal fashion.
A classic jumper, jeans with some comfy boots is the definition of comfortable. But there's so much more to the autumnal feel than the clothes. Autumn is the season of Halloween, Bonfire Night and of course it's when everyone starts to think about Christmas! If anything, I find it is the best time of year for decor, sentimentality and more. Here are a few of my favourite things for Autumn, they might end up being yours too!

Candles

There is definitely something about Autumn that makes you value the smells that surround you so much more than any other time of year. Whether its the smell of smoke from bonfires, pumpkin spice, cedarwood or apples, you can easily associate them with this time of year. I don't often buy candles any other time of year, but when I popped into Homesense I just had to pick some autumnal candles up to make my home just that little more cosy. The first candle I bought was called "Apple Blossom" by DW Home. I was really struggling to find a sweet scent through all the more 'smokey' options. The packaging was also what drew me to this candle, it not only smells like Autumn, it looks like it too! At only £2.99 I couldn't say no. The second candle is one I got only yesterday, and it is called "Apple Cider". Again, the packaging is very autumnal with the dark red glass and cork style lid. This one is not quite as sweet as the last and is slightly smokier but still a pleasant scent. This was also £2.99 and I'm excited to burn it later!

Five Year Memory Journal

This is an idea I saw on Facebook which made me think "I want to do that!". This is called a Five Year Memory Journal and the idea behind it is simple but lovely. Every day you write a single sentence for that day, and so on throughout the year. But when you reach back to the beginning, you start the next line and so forth. I bought this the day before my birthday as a small gift towards myself, and I think it's crazy how I won't finish it until my 25th birthday! Whilst most might think the time to start things is in the New Year, I think you can start anytime. As September/October tend to be the beginning of the academic year then why not take up this opportunity?! It would also make an excellent gift to the more sentimental of your friends. I can't wait until I've finished mine so I can look through the memories of the past 5 years! I bought mine from Waterstones for £11.99 which is a bargain for how long you will keep it for!

My Cats

My kitties are definitely an Autumn favourite. They make the best foot warmers and when you're feeling lonely on a night in they make great company. We recently got our second little kitten, Milo in September. He's such a cutie and has settled in great so I couldn't not put them in my Autumn favourites!

Little Black Bag

This isn't necessarily new, in fact I've had it for probably over a year now. It's worn and well used but I just don't think you can go wrong with a little black bag in the Autumn time. I love a handbag as much as the next girl, but sometimes they're just a little too hefty to carry around all day and you only really need your purse, phone and keys sometimes. I use this bag all the time, it's from River Island and whilst I don't think they currently sell this exact one, they have loads of variations and I'm definitely thinking of upgrading! At only about £25 (I think) it is a bargain, I have had tons of use from mine and it still looks great. It's just the right size to hold my essentials and goes with basically every outfit, an absolute lifesaver when my bigger handbag just isn't looking appealing!

  4. Aw your cats are SO cute! My cat passed about two years ago and I realised after reading this how much I really feel like adopting a kitten or something because life's just not as good without cute little kittens and cats to snuggle too, am I right?

  8. 100% agree about the One Line A Day being a great gift - I've gifted it a few times and I've nearly finished my 2nd year on my own! I love how my cat seems to want more cuddles as the weather gets chillier and I can't believe that you got the Apple Cider for £2.99... I'm off to Homesense :P
